Mr. Chase

D. A. N. Chase, has practiced in the Kansas City area since 1962 in patent, trade secret, trademark and copyright law and litigation. He has represented clients in diverse technologies before various trial and appellate courts including the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, D.C., which hears all patent cases from the federal district courts. He is a frequent lecturer and is named in The Best Lawyers in America.

Education and Affiliations:

Mr. Chase obtained his law degree in 1961 from Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. He completed his undergraduate work at the University of Kansas, graduating in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.

Mr. Chase is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and is admitted to the Kansas Bar , the Missouri Bar, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh, Eighth, Ninth, Tenth and Federal Circuits, and the U.S. Court of Federal Claims. He is a member of the American Bar Association and the American Intellectual Property Law Association.


Ms. Derusseau

Ginnie Chase Derusseau, associate attorney, practiced intellectual property law for several years in Washington, D. C. before joining Chase Law Firm, L.C. in 1994. She continues to work in all phases of patent, trademark, copyright and trade secret law and litigation. She devotes about fifty percent of her time to trademark matters, including trademark application prosecution and opposition and cancellation proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. Her patent prosecution work focuses on mechanical technologies.

Education and Affiliations:

Ms. Derusseau attended Boston University during her first year of law school and graduated from the University of Kansas School of Law in 1991. She obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Science from Vanderbilt University in 1988.

Ms. Derusseau is admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and the Kansas, Virginia and the District of Columbia Bars. She is also a member of the Johnson County, Kansas, and American Bar Association (Member: Patent, Trademark and Copyright Law Sections), and the American Intellectual Property Law Association. Ms. Derusseau is also admitted to various federal trial and appellate courts.


Mr. Jim Kernell

James J. Kernell, associate attorney, has over 12 years of industry experience in electrical and software engineering before joining Chase Law Firm, L.C.. He is involved in all phases of patent, trademark and copyright related matters, including litigation, patent and trademark searches, preparation and prosecution of patent and trademark applications, and preparation of license agreements. His patent prosecution work focuses on electrical and computer technologies including software, hardware and internet related technologies.

Education and Affiliations:

Mr. Kernell received his law degree from the University of Missouri at Kansas City in 1999. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Missouri at Columbia and his Master of Science degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington.

Mr. Kernell is admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and the Missouri Bar. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association and the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis. Mr. Kernell is also admitted to the Federal District Court for the Western District of Missouri.


Mr. Yakimo

Michael Yakimo, Jr., of counsel, has practiced in the Kansas City area since 1977. He is involved in all phases of patent, trademark and copyright law, including litigation, preparation and prosecution of patent and trademark applications, patent and trademark searches, licensing and client counseling. Especially skilled in computer-related causes, Mr. Yakimo has also provided expert witness services in various intellectual property areas.

Education and Affiliations:

Mr. Yakimo obtained his law degree from the University of Missouri at Kansas City in 1976 after graduating from the University of Missouri at Columbia in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering.

Mr. Yakimo is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and is a member of the Johnson County and American Bar Associations (Member: Patent and Litigation Sections) and the Missouri and Kansas Bars. He is also admitted to the U.S. Supreme Court and various federal trial and appellate courts.
